JACOB'S STRUGGLE WITH THE ANGEL
Thomas van der Krogt presents his searing vision of mankinds struggle with the divine in woodcut.
Just like Jacob struggled with his angel. Being transformed in the process. It is in our human nature to struggle with our own angels and demons alike. Sometimes what seems dark may appear to be the most radiant light in our universe if only we surrender. That is shown in this print by the dark appearance of the angels countenance but the radiant halo above his head. In the case of Jacob he appears with one hand holding the angel back whereas the other has a much gentler touch, almost a touch of surrender or a holding of hands.
